Used commonly in Japan for centuries, buckwheat hull neck rolls and pillows have been used to ensure healthy, restful sleep. Despite the name, buckwheat is not a grain, but a fruit (fagopyrum esculentum) that is related to rhubarb. Hulls are hypo-allergenic and very few people are allergic to buckwheat hull pillows. Unlike other pillow fillers, buckwheat hulls do not compress during the night, but move freely to adjust to the shape of the neck and head and provide firm, yet gentle support in all directions, eliminating muscle strain and pressure points.
