The outdoor patio fireplace isn't a new concept, but in the past it often meant a large, expensive permanent brick structure in your backyard. Today, you will find countless size, shapes and styles of patio fireplaces, fire pits and deck heaters to choose from. In some parts of the world, an outdoor fireplace isn't an entertainment option, it's a necessity. As a result there are many tried an true designs for a warm efficient fireplace. The Chiminea was in use before the conquistadores arrived in the New World. In fact, this design was probably common around the globe in some similar form.
Fire Sense has taken this popular South West icon and given it a new face in the form of a hammered aluminum construction and a beautiful designer look. The chiminea's base is constructed of sturdy black powder coated steel. This handsome patio fireplace comes complete with a solid aluminum rain cap which has a built in spark arrester for safety. Around the center of the fireplace is a high heat powder coated steel center screen with hinged door for a 360 degree view of the fire. "Chiminea" is a variation of the Spanish word "chimenea" which has French origins. There are several different spellings and pronunciations of the word, all which are accepted. Chim-in-ee-a or chim-in-ay-a, either is correct.
User Tip
Fire Sense recommends placing an inch or two of ordinary sand at the bottom of your fire place. This will dissapate heat generated in the base bowl and surrounding floor area. The sand will also protect and extend the useful life of your firepit. Make sure there is sufficent air space between the sand the steel fire grate for proper burning.
